IT was a typical scolding session by a Japanese elder to today's young people: Stop reading comic books and put away the mobile phones when you're supposed to be paying attention.
But the young people weren't schoolkids - they were rookie lawmakers in the Japanese Parliament getting reprimanded for bad manners by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
``Don't send email on your cell phones or read comic books in Parliament while in session," Koizumi told 30 first-term lawmakers.
``You can be seen very clearly from the prime minister's seat. You should really stop that - it's disgraceful."
